A practical 14-day app test plan

Give testers a clear purpose each time they use your app. This suggested plan helps organise the work; adapt it to your features, risks and available testing time.

Prepare before Day 1

Agree the build, core journeys, feedback channel and test accounts. Check that people can open the correct version and know where to report a problem. List three tasks that must work for the app to be useful: for example, create a project, save a change and return to it later.

Google’s eligibility period and a provider’s paid service schedule are separate. For Gigsdo, managed Day 1 begins after payment, following the assigned testers’ opt-ins and downloads. Check the actual Google Play requirements alongside your plan.

Group tasks across the test

Days 1–3: first use

Try installation, onboarding, account access and the main task. Note unclear instructions, missing feedback and failures that stop progress.

Days 4–7: everyday journeys

Return to saved work, edit it and use connected features. Try realistic invalid inputs and empty states with safe test data.

Days 8–11: variations and fixes

Check agreed device or screen differences. Reproduce important findings and verify fixes on the correct replacement build.

Days 12–14: final review

Repeat the essential journeys. Review unresolved issues, gather feedback and record what was tested, blocked or left outside scope.

These day groups are our planning suggestion, not a schedule Google requires or a promise of approval. Adjust tasks if a blocking issue needs attention.

Keep a useful testing log

Download the blank test log

Use one row per task and build. Record expected and actual results, pass/fail/blocked, an issue reference and the next action. A screenshot is easier to understand when it is connected to the task that produced it.

Track participation separately from task results. Avoid treating an install screenshot as proof that every feature was tested.

Turn feedback into next steps

Review blocking failures promptly. Group duplicates, assign an owner and ask for missing reproduction details. After a change, record the new build and check both the original failure and related important journeys.

Finish with an honest summary of feedback, changes and remaining limitations. Google asks about testing experience when affected developers apply for production access; use your actual records. Read Google’s guidance.

Choose the coverage your app needs

Our testing packages explain the difference between focused feedback, broader coverage and Premium reporting. For structured issue reporting, use the bug-report template.
