How to add testers to your Google Play closed test.
Make the invitation easy to follow, then check that testers can actually reach the right build.
1. Prepare your closed-testing track
Open your app in Play Console and find closed testing under the testing area. Complete the setup and release steps shown for your app. Invite testers to the intended track rather than sending an unrelated store or internal-test link.
2. Choose your tester group
Google supports tester email lists and Google Groups for closed tests. Add the intended Google accounts, or configure the group using Google’s instructions. With a group-based test, people must join the group before opting into the test.
3. Share the opt-in link
Send the testing link with short instructions. Testers should use the Google account you added and complete the opt-in flow. Your closed-test app will not simply appear to them through a normal Google Play search.
For current controls and release details, follow Google’s official open, closed and internal testing setup guide.
4. Confirm access with a real device
Our suggested check: ask one tester to follow your invitation from beginning to end before sending it to the whole group. Confirm that they can opt in, install the expected version and complete a basic task.
If access fails, record the exact message and step where it appeared. Check the account, group membership and intended track before asking everyone to retry. Avoid sharing personal screenshots that expose email addresses or account details.
A simple invitation to adapt
Please test [app name] using [Google account you invited].
[If needed: join this Google Group first: link.] Then open [opt-in link], join the test and install the app.
Try [two or three key tasks] and send any issues through [feedback channel]. Please stay opted in throughout the testing period.
Replace the brackets with your own details. Send passwords for dedicated test accounts through an appropriate private channel, not in a public group post.
Keep the testing organised
Set a contact person for access problems and keep feedback in one place. Give testers enough context to know what success looks like for each task.
Check which testing requirements apply, or ask about Gigsdo’s closed-testing support.
